Bedhunt FAQ's for Owners

Here are some common FAQ's to help you on your way.

1. Ok I am registered. That wasn't so bad. What next? How do I add my property?
   
   1. Click on the My Properties link on the left.
   2. Click on the Add New Property button on the right (of the new screen)
   3. Enter this Basic information (remember to click on Find Lat/Long to enable your Google Map) ... then click Click to Continue.
   4. Enter your B&B Characteristics - these are good for the advanced searches ... then click Click to Continue
   5. On this next page you will choose your subscription level. If you want to remain on Basic (free) then there is nothing you need to do. If you want to upgrade to Bronze, Silver of Gold levels then select one of those.
   6. You will be taken through the payment process, and then taken to the pages where you can add your additional fields.
   7. Once you have uploaded your images, you are done
   8. If you are distracted midway through, your details from previous tabs will still be there (if you have clicked "Click to Continue" on the way through)
   
   
2. I am really busy, can you create my listing for me for a small fee?
   
   1. Yes we can create your listing for you
   2. The cost is US $40 per listing
   3. Click on this link property setup request and we will do the rest for you
   
   
3. Do you have any suggestions regarding SEO optimisation of my listing?
   
   There are no guaranteed SEO techniques, however we think the following make sense, and will help
   1. In general, use the full wording "Bed and Breakfast" rather than B&B
   2. Put the wording "Bed and Breakfast" into your property name
   3. Put your area, plus the words Bed and Breakfast near to each other, near the beginning of your property description
   4. Same applies to self catering properties (in which case use Self Catering rather than Self Contained, for example)
   5. Don't worry too much about this, in the end it needs to read well for the person searching for a place to stay
   
   
4. Can I offer online booking via your website?
   
   1. Yes, in partnership with existing established online booking providers.
   2. If you already use an online booking service, and would like to offer it on your Bedhunt listing, then please email us
   3. We will confirm if and how this can be done
   4. Your contract will be with your online booking service provider
   
   
5. What is Gold and Silver and Bronze, and how do I upgrade my B&B?
   
   1. When you add your listing, you first input the Basic (free) level information
   2. Then you have the option to upgrade to Bronze, Silver or Gold levels, and make your payment
   3. After successful payment, you will be able to add the additional information according to your level
   4. The key reason to upgrade to Bronze, Silver or Gold levels is to get more exposure for your B&B or Guesthouse:

   • More areas. All listings are against areas such as your village or town. Additional areas means you can also list in a nearby city, or a well known tourist name such as Gold Coast or Garden Route.
   • Higher placement. All search results are displayed in the order of first Gold, then Silver, then Bronze listings. The higher you are, the more viewings you will get.
   • Gold listings are the only ones included in the featured box rotation on the home page of this website.

   5. Upgraded listings also offer page statistics, links back to your website, and display of contact information (phone and fax).
   6. To read more about this, and make your payment to upgrade your listing, click on "My Properties" ... then click on the word "upgrade" next to your B&B name.
   
   
6. What is "linkback" and how do I join it?
   
   1. Linkback is a free programme you can join to get better placement on search results
   2. To join "linkback" you need to do two things:
       a) Place a link to Bedhunt.com on your own website and
       b) Enter the EXACT page where the link can be found into the field on your owner homepage in menu option "Link Details"
   3. The Bedhunt spider then checks on this link by going to the EXACT page you specify to ensure it is there
   4. If it is there, then your listing gets higher placement
   5. If it is not there, you will get 3 reminders, then be removed from the linkback programme
   6. Please note it is critical to enter the EXACT page the link can be found on, otherwise the Bedhunt spider has no idea where to find it
   7. One final point, our spider cannot read websites which use Frames (a small number do ... ask your webmaster if necessary) 
   
   
7. Where will my listing be displayed? How near to the top?
   
   1. Listings are displayed in the order of first Gold listings, then Silver, then Bronze, and then Basic (free)
   2. Within that, those with links back to Bedhunt are placed higher than those without
   3. Then within that, they are randomised
   
   
8. What are "areas" and why are they important?
   
   1. Most visitors search by Country, Region and Area.
   2. When you add your listing, you select your country, then your region (within that country), then your area (within that region)
   3. If you don't see your area, you can click on "other" and type it in right there and then
   
   
9. What if I forget my password?
   
   1. On the owner login page you can flick on "Forgotten your Password"
   2. Bedhunt will give you your secret question which you can answer and get your password on the screen, or
   3. You can have your password sent to your email address as a reminder, or
   4. You can get a new password generated and sent to your email address
   
   
10. How will Bedhunt visitors make contact with me?
    
    From your detailed listing, they can:
    1. Click on "contact owner" then send you an email (all levels)
    2. Click straight through to your own website (Gold, Silver, Bronze levels)
    3. Use your phone or fax number which display on your listing (Gold, Silver, Bronze levels)
    
    
11. How do I edit or change something on my property?
    
    1. Click on the My Properties link on the left.
    2. You will see your B&B on the next page. If you don't see it there, you have not added it to the database and you should see FAQ 1.
    3. To the right of your B&B, you will see this little image 
    4. It is to edit your property. Click on it.
    5. Then you will get to the pages where you can edit all your details. Remember to click on "save and next"
    
    
12. How many booking should I expect from Bedhunt.com?
    
    1. Bedhunt.com visitors make arrangements directly with yourself, without our involvement.
    2. Therefore we focus our efforts on driving traffic to your detailed page, from where visitors can contact you.
    3. Average number of visits to your detailed page you can expect depends on country and membership level, but as an indication:
    ... Gold listings average around 100 visits to your detailed page per month
    ... Silver listings average around 60 per month
    ... Bronze listings average around 20 per month
    ... Basic listings average around 10 per month
    
    
13. I have a Gold, Silver or Bronze listing. How do I add a photo?
    
    1. Follow the steps for FAQ 2 above to edit your property.
    2. When you get to the page to upload your images then click on "upload new image" button (towards bottom of page)
    3. A new box will popup. If you do not see this box, check that you have allowed popups for Bedhunt.com.
    4. Click the "browse" button which will allow you to find your image on your computer which you would like to upload.
    5. Note that smaller rectangular images work best. Larger ones take a long time to upload.
    6. Find the image you want on your computer, and click on it. usually you have to click on it, then click on "close" or something like that.
    7. Now you should be returned to the Bedhunt popup box.
    8. Then click "upload". Now your image will be uploaded into the Bedhunt database.
    9. If you can see your image on the image tab (page) then it has worked, It is saved.
    10. You can add more images (depending on your level) by going back to step 3 of this FAQ
    
    
14. I have a Gold or Silver listing. How can I add a link to my "virtual tour"?
    
    If you already have a virtual tour stored somewhere, then you can email us with the link and we will add it to your listing
    
    
15. I have a Gold listing. How do I get included in the Featured Box shown on the home page?
    
    You don't have to do anything - your Gold listing will be included automatically into these rotations
    
    
16. How can I get my Google Map to work?
    
    1. When you are on the first page where you can edit your B&B there is a link there called "Find Your Lat/long"
    2. Click on it
    3. Then a Google Map pops up.
    4. You just need to drag that marker to your exact location, and drop it exactly where you are located.
    5. You might need to zoom out, or in, to do this.
    6. Drag it, and drop it exactly where you are located.
    7. Your Lat/Long fields will automatically change.
    8. If you are happy, then click "close" at the top of the Google Map.
    9. You will now show on the Google Maps, and you will have a Google Map on your detailed page
